At a bare minimum plaster homes will need to have sealant replaced and painted every 7 to 10 years. A well cared for home may never have any major issues so staying on top of maintenance will save you money in the long run. If your home is requiring more than maintenance our licensed builder will be able to reinstate it for you.
There are a lot of plaster homes that were built with no cavity, no soffits and untreated timber framing. If your home has any of these 3 you just need to be more vigilant with your maintenance. In many cases, sealant can be the only thing providing weather tightness around windows, doors and penetrations. If the sealant has deteriorated moisture will be getting in and if there is no cavity there is no way for it to dry out which then causes rot.
