Potential signs of a leaky home

There are a lot of plaster homes that were built with no cavity, no soffits and untreated timber framing. If your home has any of these 3 you just need to be more vigilant with your maintenance. In many cases, sealant can be the only thing providing weather tightness around windows, doors and penetrations. If the sealant has deteriorated moisture will be getting in and if there is no cavity there is no way for it to dry out which then causes rot.

If you are worried that your home may have issues, keep an eye out for the following:

  • Sealant perishing around joinery and cladding penetrations
  • Delamination of plaster
  • Water stains on carpet
  • Swelling of walls or skirting
  • Dampness, mould or musty smells
